LOGIN/PASSWORD

You must log in before editing any section of the website!You will not see the editing options without logging in.

REQUIREMENTS: Every username must be unique (no two people can have the same username). Please choose something specific to you. Usernames and passwords must be less than 32 characters.

If you do not have a username and password, but you do know someone who does, you can have them set one up for you. The person simply needs to go to your profile (by clicking on your name from the family tree) and click on “create login.” Enter the desired username and password (see requirements above). Remember, you can change your username or password at anytime (once you login).

Otherwise, you can email a request for a username/password to mike@kristopeit.com. Please provide your desired username and password (see requirements above). Remember, you can change your username or password at anytime (once you login). After sending your request, your username should be valid within 24 hours.

PLEASE NOTE: Once a person has a username and password, he/she is the only person who can edit his/her profile. Please do not create a username and password for a person who is unable to make changes to his/her profile.

To change your username or password, you must first log in. Click on your name in the family tree. This will bring you to your profile.  Click on “Change Login Info” and make the change.

FAMILY TREE

Create New Family Members

You must first create a family member before adding them to the family tree.  From the “Family Tree” section, click on the button “Add Family Member” (this will only appear if you are logged in).  There are two different ways to add members:

  1. Building Downward
  2. Building Upward

Building Downward is adding a family member below an already existing member. This is faster than building upward. Once you have clicked on the “Add Family Member” button, enter the person’s information. Make sure to add their father/mother and/or spouse.  Then click on “add person”. The person will automatically be added to the family tree.

Building Upward is adding a family member that will be a level above an already existing member. After clicking on the “Add Family Member” button, enter the person’s information and click on “add person”.  The person will NOT automatically be added to the family tree since, at this point, there is no connection between them and the other members in the family tree.  You must edit the profile of someone immediately below them in the family tree (for example, their son).  Simply, add the newly created person as their father/mother and the person will be added to the family tree.

Edit Profile

You may edit the profile of yourself at any time (you must be logged in first). Once you are logged in, click on your name in the family tree. Then click on “edit profile”. Make any necessary changes and click on “save changes.”

You may also edit the profile of any other family member that does not have his/her own username and password. o do this, click on the person’s name from the family tree section.  This will bring you to his/her profile.  Click on “edit profile”. Make any necessary changes and click on “save changes.” Once a person has a username and password, only that person may edit his/her own profile. However, designated ‘Site Admins’ have the ability to change any person’s profile.

NEWS (HOME PAGE)

The homepage contains recent news articles.   Only the 15 most recently posted news stories are displayed on the homepage.  To view older news stories, click on the link, “news archive” at the top of the page. This will take you to a list of the all the news stories. The news stories are always displayed in the order they were posted. However, if you are looking for a particular story, you may use the search engine to help you locate it.

To post a news story, click on the “add a news story” button on the homepage (this will only appear if you are logged in). Add the headline and the story. If the story pertains to a particular date, chose that date in the “Add to Calendar” section. The headline of the story will automatically be posted on the calendar on that date with a link to the story.  Click the “Add” button.  Your name and the date the story was posted will be displayed along with the first 355 characters of the story.  If the story is longer than 355 characters, the first 355 characters will be displayed along with a link to the full story.

You can edit or remove news stories by clicking on the option next to the story text. These options will only be displayed if you are logged in.

CALENDAR
The printable calendar is a place displaying birthdays, anniversaries, and other events.

Printable Version

To print the calendar, click on the printer symbol in the upper, right-hand corner of the calendar.   This will bring you to a page without the header. Before printing, you must make sure that your options will print the background.  To do this, go to the “Tools” menu.  Select “Internet Options.”  Click on the “Advanced” tab. Go down to the “Printing” heading and check the box next to “Print background colors and images” (if it isn’t already checked).  Click on “OK.” The calendar should now print properly.

Birthdays

Birthdays are displayed automatically on the calendar once a person’s profile is entered (including his/her birthday).   Please DO NOT manually add the birthday of a person in the family tree to the calendar.  Rather, please create or edit his/her profile, to include his/her birthday. When the birthday is displayed on the calendar, it will display the person’s age and include a link to the person’s profile.

News Story Events

When you add a news story, you have an option to add a related event to the calendar. To post a news story with a related event, click on the “add a news story” button on the homepage (this will only appear if you are logged in). Add the headline and the story. Then chose the date of the related event in the “Add to Calendar” section. The headline of the story will automatically be posted on the calendar on that date with a link to the story. Click the “Add” button.  See also, News section.

Events

To add an event to the calendar, click on the plus sign in the upper, right-hand corner of the calendar. Select the month, date, and year of the event. In the headline section, describe the event BRIEFLY. This is what will be displayed on the calendar.In the description section, describe the event in more detail.  This is what will be displayed after someone clicks on the title in the calendar. If the event will occur each year on that date, check the box next to this option. Click on “add event.”

PHOTOS
Add Photos to Family Tree Profile

To add photos to a person’s profile in the family tree section, you must first be logged in.  Then click on the person’s name in the family tree, which will bring you to their profile. Click on the “Edit Profile” button. Click on the “Browse” button next to “new photo.” Go to the place on your computer where the picture is saved and highlight it. Then click “Open.” Click on the “Save Changes” button at the bottom of the edit profile screen. Refresh the page and the new photo should appear in the person’s profile.

EMAIL ADDRESSES

You can get an @kristopeit.com email address, however, it is only available as a forwarding email account.  Any emails sent to your @kristopeit.com address will be forwarded to another, already established, email account (for example, an @hotmail.com or @yahoo.com account). If you would like your own @kristopeit.com email address, send a request to mike@kristopeit.com.  Please provide your desired @kristopeit.com address and the email address where you want it to be forwarded. You will be notified that the new address is active via email.

MISCELLANEOUS INFO/TIPS

Once you are logged in, two additional options appear in the site heading. The "my profile" link takes you directly to your profile. The "log out" option allows you to log out once you are finished.
